right then that look a lot more healthier, just concerned now that me extension wont work,LOL i pulled the orange and white and blue out of 5 and 2 as there was the all blue and all white in those points as well , and yes i think i will get rid of that router, can you reccomend another router thats good, all i do is play games really so i just want a rock solid stable connection with low pings, not bothered about wireless either thanks again guys, cheers luke

NETGEAR DG834N MY FRIEND! Connect the wires that were connected to 2+5 back up unless you're not really bothered about that extension anyway, it made your line attenuation drop by 0.5db though.

you can easy connect the extension ONLY the orange wire had to be disconnected...

but still you should be getting faster than that - 12Mb is what you SHOULD be getting if your on MAX / paying £10 for SKY Broadband

you cant use any other router mate cos your on SKY.... unless UndeadDevil or other SKY users know of a way to get the router login config to enter into a new router - you cant get it from your Netgear cos SKY have blocked users from doing so - I said this earlier on....

SKY state in section 3 that you MUST use their router at all times , so i doubt they will GIVE you the login info when theyve deliberatley hid it from you.... you cant just plug in and use ANY router without setting it up 1st.....

look onthe bottom of your router is it a GT..? if so u can use DMT tool to drop your SNR to 6db and this will give you your TRUE sync speed of around 12Mb hopefully - yhe reason the SNR is higher is cos it had to go higher to cope with the interference from the bellwire

.......(continued)

download DMT tool for your router
http://www.2cent.de/dmt/v8/dmt.zip

log into router with and go into options and enable hidden experimental area , then save and now a 4th and 5th Tab will have appeared in the colom on right - click on the 5th and drop the SNR to 66% and click SAVE+RE-SYC.. 66% of 9db = 6db - it works by decreasing or increasing your CURRENT SNR to the % you put it at - so for e.g. if your on 9db and you want 6db you slide it to 66% then you are on 6db say you want to go back to 9db you slide it to 150% cos 150% of 6 is 9 - see what i mean.. TRY NOT to keep playing with it though - get it to 6db and leave it....

theres a full guide here (half way down) -> http://www.beforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9449

DO NOT LOWER IT LESS THAN 6db THATS THE DEFAULT - once your line is settled on 6db SNR and it doesnt drop after a while then you can play with it and try to lower it to 3 perhaps and get faster speeds again and see if your line can hold it - if not you just go back to 6db - but just leave on 6db for a while 1st to ensure its OK on that... :)

let me know how u get on

You can get the username & pass for your sky router if it is the black Netgear DG934G, the v2 router Sky are giving out. Look here:

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/index.php?news=758

Forget that, just read it & it's for upgrading the firmware or something, if you have the white router then follow this:

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/technica ... outer.html

You'll need to register to see the links but it'll tell you how to obtain your username & pass to use a different router.

he has a NETGEAR DG834GT which is great anyway - Belkin is crap he will get worse speeds - but the Netgear he's got is broadcom chipset and DMT compatible - same DG834N etc etc - really - when he follows my guide above he will get the best speeds he can on the line with that router OR any other... the best routers for those connections are ones with broadcom chipset like his and N and Thomsons

he just needs to use DMT tool to lower his SNR to 6db to get his proper sync of around 12Mb - the SNR has been risen to 9db cos of the interference from the bellwire thats why its only gone upto 7Mb instead of around 12Mb - then after he's done that and all is fine he can reduce it to 3db and get even faster again and see if it will hold.... if not revert back to 6db....

but still be good if he can get he login details for future ref

reading that link SM1LEY someone has created a webpage that will change SNR on the DG834GT??? wonder if it works - saves having to learnt DMT

http://admadm4.freehostia.com/broadband ... ector.html

try and use DMT tool if you can to be sure cos thats UNTESTED as far as im concerned and could break your router

heres the page that tells you how to get your login details from your router using URL injection hacks

http://www.asininemonkey.com/netgear-dg ... _Injection

i dunno if it will give you ALL the SKY login details - you will need more than just username and password although they are the most important ones cos the others can be sussed from other hardcore users or even guessed - may be same as o2 ADSL2+ settings - dunno just trying to guess mate
