im on Orange LLU, been with them around 6mths, was very hesitant at first due to bad reviews, once the line had settled i tweaked with DGTeam firmware and get around 19mb down and 1.3mb up.Support was a bit crap when i first started with them but not needed them since.
Not noticed any peak slowdowns, a lot better than my old Enta connection.

Download speed was very consistent at approx 2.5Mbs up to about 1 week ago - I now get at best 0.5Mbs with NO changes in-house to either computer, settings or position - and in spite of queries made to Orange I get NO help or sign of any improvement whatever.
For the cost , this service is outrageous.

SO slow I can't even play youtube videos. Websites with more than 2 images take 5 mins to load. Customer services lie through their teeth then laugh at you when you tell them you want to cancel your account. Only plus side is you get a free phone line, but predictably that doesn't work either. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Customer Services do not reply to formal complaints (4 weeks now). Customer Services do not acknowledge receipt of reports of problems/complaints/outages (3/2/1 weeks now). Customer Support lines always on hold permanently, 30+ or they disconnect you after then. Been with them 3 years --- they are now terrible. DO NOT USE.

17 quid a month for 2meg is a joke, so i emailed the CEO asking y was still on upto 2 when they claim upto 8 is minimum. reply bk just went on about distance from exchange , so again i asked y we still on upto 2 and not upto 8, and he acknowledged exchange supports upto 8 but said same as b4, so living 930 metres on same rd reduces speed to just a quarter on orange, if u live in exchange u may get half - these ppl make my blood crawl!

Never had a problem with internet connection. £5 a month and unlimited use. Can play PS3 online with other european contries with no issues. If USA is hosting a room, connection can be laggy, depending on how good the USA hosts connection is. I can host room with other EU countries having great connection, again USA is dodgy using my server. Internet connection on PC is very good and I live in the middle of nowhere in scotland.

Since my initial sign up to Orange Broadband Max (£27.99) my line connection has gradually dropped from 4736kbps (4.74Mbps) (tested at 16:26PM, 2008-05-30) to 1112Kbps (1.11Mbps) (tested at 02:27AM, 2009-08-16) which is approximately 217% slower than what my line is actually capable of reciveing, which means orange are charging me £27.99 a month for a so called 8MB package but only providing me with just over 1MB which is the equavalent of their Broadband Starter at £14.99 a month. I have now completly given up atempting to speak to their customer service operatives, who are unhelpful, unknowledgeable and continually talk over the top of you and if you ask to speak to supervisor, they hang up.

Dont like to give out new equipment, i had to BUY a new Livebox off ebay for £40 as they wouldnt send out a new one after the internet cut out during a firmware update.

On a positive note, the upload speeds are quite good compared to what i got with other ISP's. And when it works, i get free calls to my partners Orange mobile phone

Appalling. Yes, Appalling. Do NOT join Orange. NEVER NEVER NEVER. Better to shoot yourself instead. It is less painful. ORANGE will lie and lie and lie and lie and you will be left without ANY connection at all for days, weeks, months - and they will still go on lying, oh so politely. Once you see "PPP Server Down", forget it - you are a goner, and it almost certainly will NEVER work reliably or properly again. Orange "Support" (clueless morons) will swear it is something to do with your wiring, or the wire from your house to the substation, or something similar, which is why no connection at all (yes, NO CONNECTION AT ALL) is possible. And a line test will be scheduled (another lie). This will go on and on and on. But mysteriously all these problems vanish INSTANTLY if you manage to get MAC codes and switch to a good broadband supplier (and ANYONE IS GREAT WHEN COMPARED TO ORANGE! I cannot believe how a couple of ISPs are ranked lower than ORANGE - I guess ORANGE is paying stooges to post high ratings for ORANGE, it would be consistent with the level of honesty they demonstrated to me). Exactly the same line which Orange said had suddenly become incapable of supporting broadband (after it had worked okay for a couple of months) even at 0.25 Mbps has since worked PERFECTLY with BE (bethere.co.uk) at 8+ Mbps for 6 months. LIARS, CHEATS, FRAUDS, SHAMELESS DISGUSTING AND UTTERLY DISHONEST PEOPLE AT ORANGE! I go to a friend's Orange connection (which is marginally better, but still outages all the time - "Oh sorry, yes we know you get "Page Not Found" all the time, we are working on it, will fix it soon, but no sorry we charged you 50p to tell you this on the premium rate phone line) to report this. On their website, under the section supposed to be there to report Service Problems, there are no entries since JUNE 2006 (2 years ago!). That is ORANGE for you. If you sign up with them AFTER reading this, you deserve all that you will get. If you have already signed up, start demanding MAC codes, complain to the industry regulator, do not waste time phoning the dullards on the customer services line (where you have to pay for the privilege of complaining about their foul-ups).
Never encountered a better case than ORANGE of a company that should be dissolved/liquidated by the government for the public good, as its very existence is contrary to the country's best interests.
Damn ORANGE to hell.
Even www.orangeproblems.co.uk doesn't do justice to how lousy they are.
I go to a friend's place (still on ORANGE and can't get out) as I managed to move to BE (Bethere) which worked beautifully at 6+Mbps on exactly the same line that Orange could not squeeze even 0.24Mbps from reliably. SHUT DOWN ORANGE! SUE ORANGE! BOYCOTT ORANGE!

Technical Support will only follow a given script at 5p per minute. At the end tell you they will arrange for a line test to be carried out. When you ring back they tell me you have to wait for another 24/48 hours for the test results. I have rang several times and it seems to me to be a rolling 24/48 hours. All efforts to contact them any other way results in a reply asking that you ring the Helpline to discuss the problem. I am going to write to the "Customer Couldn't Care less" Department again and ask for a refund

Appalling. Yes, Appalling. Do NOT join Orange. Shoot yourself instead. But mysteriously all these problems vanish if you manage to switch to a good broadband supplier (and ANYONE IS GREAT WHEN COMPARED TO ORANGE! I cannot believe how a couple of ISPs are ranked lower than ORANGE - I guess ORANGE is paying stooges to post high ratings for them, it would be consistent with the level of honesty they demonstrated to me). On their website, under the section supposed to be there to report Service Problems, there are no entries since JUNE 2006 (2 years ago!!!!).

Disconnects every now and then and when disconnected nothing you can do will solve the problem unless you're an IT expert. Thus you have to go to the helpline and then go through a voice machine that asks you about 5 or 6 questions before you finally manage to speak to someone in Tajikistan called "John". Expect to call help desk at least twice a week with Orange.

Tech support still not the best though so I try to use it only if absolutly vital otherwise a bit of home troubleshooting and a livebox reboot usually does the trick.

I was getting a speed of between 4.5 & 7meg with my "orange broadband 6gb download limit", I have since upgraded my account in dec to "wireless broadband homemax (ultimate)" because of a slow speed i was getting, and now i find out that they cut my speed without telling me, ( the letter i recieved "in Oct)only asked me to cut back on my usage, nothing about cutting it down) now when they say its back up to the normal speed as im still only getting 3meg or under. no everbody is just telling me lies and bouncing me all over the place from this help line to the next which is costing mt a fortune. they even say my line is not capable if a faster speed, very funny when it's been running at 5-7.6meg for the past 2 yrs.

Orange used to be great but this past year they have lost the plot and the customer servuce is rubbush.

Long term customer, Always on demand. Speeds drop somewhat during peak times but thats expected across the board on ADSL MAX. I may be bias on the speed though as I am only 150yrds as the crow flies from the exchange.

Technical support very average, they usually tell you to check the obvious and then tell you they dont support 'this and that' and can't help you. Very expensive technical support line 0870 normal hours and 090 number off hours and switching between departments for answers.

All in all £24.99pm for an all inclusive Broadband/Phone service is pretty good for me. Livebox leaves alot to be desired (Only basic functioning router) but you need it for the second line phone service unfortunatly.

One thing to note, if your looking at Wireless connectivity the livebox can drop your association without warning and does not have proper WPA encryption, it works on the WEP key in WPA mode you cannot put in any old PSK (Pre Shared Key) like 95% of wireless routers, Livebox needs a heck of alot of work to be up there with the big guns of Netgear and Linksys who are included in some Broadband/Phone packages by service providers.

Hope this information on Orange helps your search for an ISP. Cheers.

The way they work is fairly bureaucratic. I had a long standing slow speed problem: first contacted tech support and was asked to wait for the next 5 days. When I called after 5 day period, no update from them, then I was asked to wait another 5 day for them to "escalate" the issue to "higher level". Then to my third call there was still no update, and was again asked to wait for another 5 day to escalate to Head Office. Even so, still no update or the problem still not fixed after 15 days of waiting.
Talking to India based tech support is worse than talking to automatic / recorded system - because ultimately you get nothing from them but just "please call back next 5 working days"!

Sorry but imcompetence is one thing, lying and blaming other companies and insisting it is the customer's responsibility to contact companies which have done nothing wrong is completely unacceptable. worst support and service I've had to deal with yet on Broadband, each department blames the other for problems and no one accepts responsibility for anything. Also will not let you talk to any supervisors to get problems resolved.

Paying for 8MB, am getting average 1.1MB. Failed to set up second line as promised (which we're also paying for). Hopeless customer service, work hard to get you off the phone promising they'll call back (they dont). Technical support useless (asked us to unplug printer and scanner in order to improve internet speed). Unfortunately we're tied in to a contract but will be making formal complaints both direct and to the ISPA. I'd pay good money to never have to deal with them again.

Appalling. Yes, Appalling. Do NOT join Orange. They will lie and lie and lie and lie and you will be left without ANY connection at all for days, weeks, months - and they will still go on lying. Once you see "PPP Server Down", forget it - you are a goner, and it almost certainly will NEVER work reliably or properly again. Orange "Support" (clueless morons) will swear it is something to do with your wiring, or the wire from your house to the substation, which is why no connection at all (yes, NO CONNECTION AT ALL) is possible. But mysteriously all these problems vanish if you manage to switch to a good broadband supplier (and ANYONE IS GREAT WHEN COMPARED TO ORANGE!). Wireless is useless - next room and hardly any signal - not quite wot it says on the tin, eh? general internet service is sporadic - paying for up to 8 meg, live next door to the exchange - best ive had so far is 3.5 meg - would love an explaination but unfortunately i don't speak Indian. Dear Santa, I would like for Christmas an ISP devoid of poor service and un-managed by rice-munchers, oh and a Playstation 3 would be a good shout too, if you have any kicking about in your most excellent sack of hopes and dreams - er, mate, please?

I hate this damn ISP. My contract is due to end soon, I know this because they're now ringing me up suggesting that I should transfer to their latest new 'money saving' broadband package, home max or something (which will ultimately be just as sh** and bind you to a fresh 12 monthly agreement). The wireless bit of the livebox absolutely sucks cheese straight from the cheesepipe. Livebox is upstairs attached to the main pc with ethernet cable. Directly below this room is the lounge and thats where the wireless laptop is. Signal strength is at best 'fair' and quite often bombs out. When I right click on the wireless network icon in the taskbar and select to view available networks, all my neighbours wireless networks are listed above livebox, with far stronger signal strength - they are 3 or 4 houses away!!

Been with Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve since they started. No complaints really, service has been good with no periods of downtime at all. Feel sorry for those who have had problems, they seem to be in the majority here but it's likely that those who are happy with Orange don't bother to comment so suspect that the results are slanted??

Do NOT join Orange. Most of the time their service did not work, so I switched to BeThere (www.bethere.co.uk). Orange said that due to the poor quality of my line I could not hope for better than about 2 Mbps; BeThere deliver 4.5 Mbps on the same line! And Orange's service will go offline for weeks with "PPP Server Down" error messages - and they will lie and lie and lie to you over the phone that they are fixing it immediately, and until then they want you to PAY AGAIN for a slow dial-up service. I only log in via Orange to complain to the world about their lousy, dishonest, f****d-up service. Companies like ORANGE do not deserve to exist. Very polite customer service, but they never solve the problem, just talk through their script. When I finally forced my way through the ranks I was advised by an Orange manager that... read the small print!!!! "Orange supply broadband UP TO 8Mb, so they could supply you with anything that was greater than dialup and that was what you signed up when you agreed the contract" You can't complain!! You can't get out of the contract without a V lengthy procedure. They just want your money and do not care about their level of service.

Customer Services is barely better (unless you get the name of one of the few Escalations managers who are both honest & clued up - they'll quietly tell you to leave Orange ASAP). The Livebox has poor wireless coverage. And the LLU problem, leading to the infamous "PPP Server Down" message, is a disgrace. ORANGE will think nothing of you going without any Broadband connection for weeks, even months - and will have the sheer audacity to offer you a Pay-As-You-Go dial-up service in the interim (so you end up paying them twice!).
The whole experience is painful. Please learn from my mistake. I was with Freeserve, who were excellent. Unfortunately, they got taken over by Wanadoo/ORANGE.

Orange is LOUSY! Orange is USELESS! Orange is DUMB! Orange is SHAMELESS! Orange employs RETARDS or ROBOTS in Technical Support, who keep mouthing about irrelecant "Factory-resets for LIVEBOX", "service escalations", "line tests scheduled" and "engineers on call" while they know full-well all along that the "PPP Server Down" problem is, 99+% of the time, nothing at all to do with your Livebox or phone line quality and everything to do with the low-spec, cut-price Alcatel boxes they - Orange - had installed at the exchange for the LLU, so they are just buying time by telling you to do useless/pointless things or wait for non-occurring or irrelevant-if-they-occur events. Orange's Customer Support tells endless LIES (example: "On no account can we give you Freeserve AnyTime dial-up while we fix the Broadband connection that no longer works, so if you want to go online you'll have to pay a second time for an inferior slow service, and pay a huge amount per minute, for Freeserve PAY-AS-YOU-GO access, sorry there's nothing we can do, it is policy.". That is a TOTAL LIE - complain to the right persons there and keep complaining and they can and will put you onto their free narrowband service in a second and send you a device to reset the line and get you back on (thereafter you can switch back to your Livebox). Now complain to their supervisor, www.ispa.org.uk and also to the industry regulator www.ofcom.org.uk/complain and to watchdog@bbc.co.uk - and check out www.orangeproblems.co.uk for 1000s of other innocent users being jerked around by these lousy SLIMEBALLS. Get the "secret" email addresses of their bosses there. Do not wait - ORANGE WILL PROMISE EVERYTHING ("just another 24 hours") BUT WILL NOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM AND YOU WILL STAY DISCONNECTED UNTIL YOU HURT THESE DISGUSTING JERKS IN THE POCKET. Cancel the direct debit to them immediately, they'll be laughed out of court and have to pay you damages if they try and sue you (by failing to connect you for weeks they are in fundamental breach of the implied terms of the contract; their tricky small print is worthless crap which would be disregarded). And if they delay giving you the MAC code so you can migrate to a proper ISP, you can sue them for consequential losses through denied access and win, as have many - how does £700 damages sound? Plenty of excellent ISPs around, Orange are the worst national ISP, voted the worst ISP in the Watchdog poll.

05 Jul 2007

91.109.7.**
Took approximately 10 weeks to get connected after receipt of Livebox.

Absolutely abysmal customer support and technical support. Horrendous trying to communicate with them.

Still on speeds less than dial up for over a month now.

This feels like a con, and they are about to lose yet another customer (as well as dozens of colleagues, family and friends). Will never buy any Orange products or services for as long as I live.

Lost all confidence in Orange service/products, and dismayed at their support. Rude staff who find it virtually impossible to communicate between themselves, and consistently seem to lie when confronting technical and account issues.

After speaking to the cancellation department, was told by one of their so-called professional staff (after being on hold for over an hour) that "We're closed now. I'm going to have to go or I will miss my transport home". He then put the phone down on me.

That said it all. Time to move ISP.

Please take my advice. Stay well clear of this company, they cannot deliver what they promise.

Appalled.

BEWARE of Orange. Very BAD ISP. Extremely low speeds and very rude and useless customer support. I've had them laugh at me and hang up after telling them I want a MAC code to migrate to another ISP. They are unwilling to listen or help and tell you lie after lie.

Speed is just unacceptable and often disconnects altogether. They break their contract and cut you to 2Mb when you're supposed to be on 8Mb. Really finding it hard to get away from Orange.

Never get involved with them, they will try to trap you and send you MAC codes that don't work. They should be shut down and fined.

My suspicison is that they are using traffic shaping, throttling on P2P traffic. In the past i never noticed this, more recently after an hour or so at 100 kB/s the line rate drops to a trickle <5 kB/s unacceptable for P2P use. This really sucks, i notice in their terms and conditions they reserve the right to do this after two hours. I am still trying to learn to tolerate this but its making me poorly. Orange suck cheese. They've had too long to make this work, these can no longer be classed as 'teething troubles'. This is a second rate service which has no internal funding - Orange just want to compete with the big-players and own an ISP, knackers to the responsibilities that go with it. I have struggled along for far too long now giving them the benefit of the doubt and truly believing that perhaps theyve got a team of engineers working 24/7 trying to correct the problems. I now realise that I have been somewhat mistaken. All my neighbours are languishing in 6 - 8 meg connections with other ISP's, quite a few of them are paying less than me for the luxury. I am plodding on at between 300kps and 2mps max whilst paying 20 quid a month for my 'up to' 8mps connection. A week or a month or a quarter without full service is fair play, understandable, acceptable even, but consistent and unrelenting slow speeds over months and months of subscription with no promise of better service or acknowledgement of fault, is starting to make me grate my teeth in my sleep. bast***S !!

The continuing saga of my upto 8meg with Orange. Over a week has passed since I reported fault, every time I ring the support desk I get a different answer to what is being done, which in reality is nothing, i had a reasonable connection until Orange took over from Wanadoo, which has slipped quickly until the 16th April when my connection died. They can't do this they can't do that when you ask for assistance, in fact the main thing they can't do is offer a good service... Stay away!!!

I cannot understand why Orange will not financially support and improve on their aquisition from Wannadoo. Surely a company of this size could become the envy of the Broadband circus with its financial clout. Instead it seems to let its service simmer in dis-functional mode leaving it bottom of ALL recent surveys including BBC Watchdog. There is so much potential here with such a strong company name but the service has been so poor and for so long that regaining trust is going to be a huge mountain to climb, perhaps even impossible now - maybe they should consider selling out to a better organised company who perhaps have what it takes to make it a market leader - possibly a rival mobile phone network with a bit of financial savvy and a keen desire to be THE BEST at what they do. I will watch from the sidelines until my contract expires then I am leaving along with most of my colleagues. Don't phone customer support, they'll only ask you if you want bhajis with that, and do you want your kebab with chilli and salad?

I am most surprised that BBC's Watchdog programme haven't been involved in the investigation of Orange and it's blatant ignorance to the current national uproar over its negligible service. It seems clear to me from reading most of these reviews that Orange have simply purchased Wannadoo as a means of future security should its direct competitors in the mobile phone market develop technology interlinked with isp ownership. In the meantime Orange seem content to provide its existing inherited customer base with service which JUST meets the fine print in their terms and conditions, hence the lack of interest or concern over the crisis which is dragging them into bottom place in the Nation's ISP ratings. I would imagine that BBC has some kind of secret handshake situation with such companies and expect that there would be no such review of their business principle, but I am sure an independent investigation will be carried out by some such broadcasting channel. The Orange failing is simply that it does not accept the current crisis, masking its undoings behind the terms of contract and its obligation only to provide downstream speeds of UP TO 8mps, this is carte blanche to provide speeds of less than dial up 56kflex modem speed on occasion but at much greater expense than typical dial-up account fees. This industry is corrupt and unmanaged, there needs to be legislation and mediaton to bring big sitters like Orange into line. Voice your opinions to BBC's Watchdog website or alternative Sky channels. The future's bright... The future is down to you.

THIS IS APPAULING. AGAIN I AM DOWN TO 160kps DOWNSTREAM AT 7pm. THE HIGHEST I HAVE EVER HAD SINCE THE WANDADOO BUY-OUT IS 2400kps AND THAT WAS AT F**KING 3 IN THE MORNING. IT HAS TAKEN ME 2 AND A HALF MINUTES TO LOAD THIS WEBPAGE, DOESN't SOUND A LOT BUT YOU TRY SITTING AND LOOKING AT F**K ALL FOR 2 & A HALF MINUTES, IT SOON GETS BORING. ALL BROADBAND USERS EXCEPT ORANGE CUSTOMERS ARE ENJOYING A SLICE OF 21st CENTURY TECHNOLOGY, WE ARE LEFT WITH THE SH*T. NO APPOLOGIES, NO GUILTY CONSCIENCES, THEY ARE DOING JUST ENOUGH TO HONOUR THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS - WHY DO ANYMORE? I COULDN'T WORK FOR ORANGE BB, I COULDN'T BE SO COLD-HEARTED AND IGNORANT TO ALL THE COMPLAINTS WITHOUT ADMITTING THAT IT WAS DOWN TO THE CHEAP AND POOR SYSTEMS THEY HAVE PUT IN PLACE TO CUT COSTS AND CONFORM TO THE T&C's AT MINIMUM LEVEL. I SUPPOSE THE INDIAN SWITCHBOARD OPERATORS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE HAVE NO TROUBLE SLEEPING - ANOTHER CHEAPO MOVE TO CUT COSTS AND PROTECT THE ELITE FINE-WINE DRINKERS AT ORANGE FROM FRONT-LINE ATTACK. tw**s! GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS sh**T CONTRACT. PLEASE BELIEVE ME READERS, THIS IS AN ACCURATE REFLECTION OF THE CURRENT ORANGE BB SERVICE, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM. YOU MUST READ ALL THESE REVIEWS, THIS IS NOT A MINORITY COMPLAINT. IF ORANGE EVEN HAD THE DECENCY TO EMAIL ITS CUSTOMER BASE AND PERHAPS SAY 'er, we're having a spot of trouble with the migration to llu' or simply, 'please bear with us - we are having some issues and we apologise for any datastream speed reduction or outages you may be encountering' THEN FAIR ENOUGH BUT THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT THERE IS A NATIONAL CRISIS WITH THEIR SERVICE. THEIR TECH PAGE SUGGESTS ALL IS UP AND RUNNING FINE, AND THEIR INDIAN SERVICE PERSONNEL THINK THAT THE FAULT IS OF YOUR OWN MAKING, GET YOUR LINE CHECKED AND STOP BOTHERING US.

Frequent disconnecions, calling tech support can take an hour or longer to finally get through only for some idiot at the end of the line to flog you off with a standard reply listed on a crib sheet. If your not worried about a fast download speed or regular disconnections its a fair service for the money. Wanadoo was GOOD but Orange have given it kiss of death Service has gone downhill rapidly and becoming nightmare to deal with. They are introducing very customer-unfriendly policies (30 day notice period, fees for MAC codes etc) and for past 6 months I've been chasing them to fix speed problems and still no results. Should be getting 6.5MB+ according to Orange (and all other ISP sites including BT wholeslae) but no one at Orange capable or willing to fix this despite months of chasing. Useless staff that are incapable of taking responsibilty for sorting problems out and always passing the buck. Managed to get refund for past 6 months and once this hits my bank account I off! hi been with freeserve from begining perfect service plus wannadoo was excellent when i received letter about changing to orange my exact words where oh my god if you have ever experienced orange mobile services customer support etc then you should think long and hard about moving to them, in total when freeserve and wannadoo where running the show i had to ring them twice both where to help with passwords as i had forgotten them, the day orange took over my connection VANISHED it took 3 weeks and around 30 calls to get it back on apparently it was whilst they where converting customers info onto there new systems!!! And because of the language barrier its very hard to get your problem understood, they just read a script and hope for the best, since then i have had speeds that are worse than a standard dial up modem and the best of 2.5mbps they have capped my speed even though im on 8mbps package they say distance between myself and exchange is reason for slow speed i live around 400metres away so i am in the process of migrating dont know if BT are any better but with only Orange, Tiscali or BT offering 8meg broadband im stuck between a rock and a hard place, so far BT have managed to seriously co** up migration supposed to have happened 20th of nov now they are saying 4th december lets see what happens but they have guarenteed a min speed of 6.5 up to 8mbps, but my final thought is if the only option is orange then obviously go with them but if you have a wide variety of providers go for the best reviewed in the tools section on the left.

Switching to Be
20 Nov 2006

62.136.50.***
Hi, I've registered on here using a struggling connection just in order to save a few sane people, becoming crazy and frustrated for 12months upon signing with Orange Broadbad service.

I started with Freeserve in 2000, enjoying a lovely fast reliable 512k connection, in 2005 I then went onto a 2mb connection, again great stuff, I didn't need to have an extremely fast connection, so it was all good.

HOWEVER, the day that Orange took over Wanadoo is the day our relationship went downhill. Connection was good, not great, but noticeably slower and occasionaly struggling with pages loading.

But, my 2mb connection since 9th November was near enough slower then a 1996 56k connection. Pages were terrible at loading, everything was, various speed tests would take an age to complete, with the result being a shocking 15K and 0.5k result

I contacted "technical support" who read the same lines of text out to you everytime, and they basically went through stuff like, empyting temp internet files, reseting your connection (basically TCP) - and a whole load of other pointless stuff. In the end they wanted to test my line, I said how there was nothing ever wrong with my line (no extension leads either) - but they still tested it and told me to phone back in 8 hours. I told the guy that my Speedtouch USB modem was out of date, and that it could not handle above 2mb+ - he did not listen and insisted on a line test.

I got fed up after 10mins assessing the situation and contacted Orange to cancel - I then actually spoke to an English guy based in Middlesbrough, very helpful guy who spoke one-2-one with you, he immediately said "I KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS" - he then proceeded to mention that my Modem was out of date, and that I need a Livebox. I said this is what I was saying to your indian call centre, and a line test was needed - he even said himself "no no no there's no need for that, you just need a new modem". So fine I got sent a livebox in the hope everything would be fine.

My livebox turned up last Friday, my now ORANGE BROADBAND MAX package has been active since November 9 I found out from the guy in Middlesbrough. Yes, the very same day I mentioned earlier when I experienced these mega slow problems. A free upgrade I was given from 2mb to 8mb.

Anyway long story short, my livebox has made no difference at all. I'm as slow as I was before, I phoned up tech support, but the indian call centre guy just goes through the usual "empty this, reset that" text book talk. And yes you guessed it, none of it helped. He then said that I needed my line tested, I just laughed and said this was already done like last week! He then paused for about 10 seconds (wondered if he cut me off) - to which he then managed to think of something else "ok let's reset internet explorer again" - I just said don't worry about it, I will contact your England office and cancel this.

So I rang up for cancellation (option 1 and 4) - the guy in Middlesbrough was extremely fed up. When providing my password correctly he replied with "YEP.............what do you want" - haha I just thought this guy does not want to work at this place, their customers don't want to be with them, it's definetely time to leave this company who have grown way too big and forgotten about their customers (typical of big companies)

I then spoke to a customer care guy, who really did not care, and said that my MAC code would be sent to me within 48 hours. Judging by peoples messages on here, I hope this code does arrive in 2 days, without me having to keep chasing them up for it.

I really cannot wait to get rid of Orange Broadband, I had hopes and gave so much loyalty, but they have grown too big which has degraded their overall quality.

Sorry if this was long, just recapping on events in detail over the past 2-3 weeks.

Good luck!

From the good old Freeserve days, I have seen Newsgroup access withdrawn by Wanadoo and now Orange will charge an extra £1 if you want to pay by debit or credit card, will want 30 days notice if you want to cancel/migrate and charge if you need an additional MAC adress if for some reason the first one expires.

That aside, what really annoyed me is that they will only increase the 1mb connection I have to 2mb if I agree to a new 12 month contract and also will only reduce the £17.99 monthly payment to £15.99 (new users pay £14.99) again if I agree to a new 12 month contract.

Considering existing customers are cheaper to retain than signing up new customers, you would think that hey wouls try and reward customer loyalty. I have cancelled and am moving to Newnet. I can't say that their service is unreliable because I haven't had any problems. Have not had to use customer support either so can't comment on that but I persoanlly feel their attitude to existing long terms customers stinks. I shall be changing my mobile phone tariff away from Orange as well. Why should I be loyal to a brand who that doesn't give a hoot about customer loyalty?

There are much better ISP's around and my personal advice is avoid. Don't get yourself stuck with a 12 month contract. Even when the 12 months are up, they are bending over backwards to make it as difficult as possible to migrate (new rules become effective in December 2006).

In the meantime, I managed to get hold of head office..... They are giving me £20 compensation, giving me 3 months free broadband, paying my £61 phone bill (which is the amount all my calls to them came to), and are going to pay me £185 I spent on a pc engineer to repair the damage caused by patches Orange told me I needed to download from unknown indian based web sites. So, the moral is, If you are looking for an ISP, avoid orange, but if you are with them and having major problems that aren't getting resolved, try and get to speak to a manager in the uk, deal with them calmly, tell them step by step what you have been through, and ask them for the neccessary compensation, and you should win through! I've been with Wanadoo since my exchane was enabled, and I've no complaints about the service. I've had "threatening" letters about abusing my cap limits, but I brow beat the girl who called into admiting that since I can't monitor my limit, then they can't complain. They haven't complained since. The tech support sucks though! The majority of the techies don't know their megabit from their megabyte. If you don't need lots of support (and lets face it, who does once it's working), then Wanadoo does the business!

I've never had any trouble with the dial-up or indeed ADSL factor of Wanadoo. Their technical support is a bit iffy; they tend to do the telephone equivalent of nod and laugh at the appropriate times, however this may be a little unfair as I'm a technical support agent myself, and there's certain incisive questions that all call centre agents hate replying to! Their customer service team have been efficient each time i've needed to contact them to upgrade, cancel a duplicate account, and indeed regrade my line. On the downside, their Wireless and Talk package is only average, and the price for a 30gb cap service is a bit steep. All in all, a decent, no-messing-about ISP.
